About the Club
Pennine Sub Aqua Club has been established for well five decades. In fact we celebrated our 50th birthday last year. We're not all that old of course! We continue to be a mixture of both young and old, brought
together by a love of diving and the enjoyment of each other's company.
In August 1968 John Holdsworth, John Sutcliffe and George Trickett who had become known for their diving skills, joined with a group of friends and formed the club. Word of mouth spread and members increased with Wood Side Baths being used as a training pool. Social meetings followed at The Commercial Inn, Gibbet Street Halifax.
The club became affiliated to the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC no. 323) on the 1st of January 1969. Peter Hendy was the first registered member of the club No. 55801. John Holdsworth was the first Diving Officer.
The club has used facilities in Halifax, Sowerby Bridge and Elland before finally residing in Todmorden, West Yorkshire.
We are a group of people of all ages who enjoy each otherís company, and share the joys diving brings. SAA member clubs maintain their independence while maintaining the national standards of the SAA and benefiting from regional and national support.
We meet each Wednesday at Todmorden Swimming Baths from 8 until 9pm for training, try dives and other events, meeting in the Pub after each Wednesday session for a drink and a social get together.
If you want to learn to scuba dive, then come along to learn! After comprehensive training we will provide you with a group of like minded divers, to dive with in the future. Our training courses are suited to you!. Its never too late to learn.
Training courses and qualifications can be arranged by contacting our Diving Officer, Bill Painter, who runs the Below The Surface Dive School
